Last month for our book club, we read Under a Maui Moon by Robin Jones Gunn. This was a story of a couple that had been married for many years that basically fell into an easy pattern of complacency. They got too comfortable in their lives that they lost focus of their relationship, therefore losing sight saving the marriage...They became "ME" oriented.
The problem with becoming "ME" oriented in a marriage is that you lose focus of not only your spouse, but you lose sight of God. This couple had lost sight of both, so little things kept happening that frustrated the both of them to the point of what could have been no return. Carissa ran off to Maui to "think things through" and when she left was seriously considering divorce.
At this point in the book, I was really wanting to send them a copy of the movie Fireproof and say "WAKE UP!" Once Carissa got to Maui, she slowly was able to see things differently and ultimately realize the mistakes she had made. Her husband Richard also had time to think things through.
I want to point out that nothing happened to this couple that was earth shattering. It was all based on a lack of communication. No affairs, no deaths, no natural disasters, just complacency. That is what is the most scary. We all can fall into this pattern and if we aren't careful, won't be able to crawl out of the hole...
All in all I enjoyed the book. I loved the ending and I think it would be a great book for women to read. Click below for a great article by Robin Jones Gunn!!!
